Horse Reigns, or dog lead

A four strand braid around 3 strands of 1/8" trot line. Customer wanted something easy and comfortable to grip, dark in color yet unique, attractive and just a little longer than the average reigns.
I add the sewn on leather handles for add comfort.

Lets try this again

I have been fighting myself on whether or not to continue this blog. Frankly, it became too much for me to keep up with on a daily basis, and like exercise, easy to forget about if I’m not in some sort of routine. So I am going to give it another try.
I will be adding a couple of things to the blog that are outright self serving and I’ve come to grips with that and encourage you, my loyal reader to do the same. One is this link for Etsy. Its an online shop basically. Some of you may know that in my spare time, I dabble in knot work and found that its easier to justify the time I spend on it if I actually make something useful like dog leashes for instance. Well, one can have only so many leashes so I’m selling them online. I’ve had some success with Ebay, but prefer to list on my own terms and give people the chance to order something custom which is discouraged on Ebay. In doing this, I think I might be able to relight my blogging fire by making it something I come back to everyday. The other new feature that I’m trying to add is a weather feature so all of you in warmer parts of the country can feel better about yourselves knowing that your not in danger of frostbite if you forget your mittens while going out to check the mail. I would also like to use this blog as a way of showing you all what I do now. This is the other self serving part. I want to draw attention to what I do for a living now. I want to do this for two reasons, one is that the product is very cool and the other is to spread the word that we are here. Our web site is www.dyesport.com and we are one of only a handful of companies that do what we do. So I’ll be posting images of the various garments we’ve designed. Hope your all ok with it, if not, let me know and I’ll be sure to "file" those complaints in their respective folders.

A Not So Quick Update

Well well well...
Here I am and where is everyone else?
Yea yea, its been a few months since my last update, and while I put this site on my calendar, I don’t expect anyone to actually go to it. As it turns out, some of you still do, which is a lot like going to the fridge for an icy cold beer even when you know its empty.

In my defense, its been crazy busy here and I have photographic evidence to back up that claim.
For example. We decided after a long winter of chipping ice and shoveling out the INSIDE of the garage, that the garage would keep our stuff dryer if it was actually gone, so early on, we hatched a plan that would get rid of the garage/ice rink and the big concrete pad next to it while simultaneously gaining an endless pile of dirt for Dylan and the dogs to track throughout the house (including the walls and shower curtain). Along with this new “beach front”, we built an addition to make our small house 14 x 14 ft larger. (When I say ‘we’ built, I mean someone else whose far more qualified than yours truly.) Every day has been like Christmas, or actually more like Hanukkah, since its been about 8 days since they started, but my point is, I’ve been really excited to get home and see how much progress they’ve made. And let me just say that each day I’ve been amazed at what these guys can do. While it takes me a weekend to frame in a closet and drywall it, not including mud, sanding or trim, these guys have damn near built this entire addition, including the siding to finish the outside. They’re still working on the inside, but I have no doubt that they will impress me with that as well. So far, everyone of the professionals we’ve hired on this have gone way above my expectations for timeliness and professionalism. As a bonus, we poured a concrete floor (again, by “we”, I mean someone else) underneath the addition that will give us about 14 x 14 x 4 feet of additional storage. This was one of many great ideas pitched by Kim’s bosses who own the best plumbing and heating company in town. Actually, without their help and expertise this project would still be stuck in our heads. Not only are they incredibly knowledgeable in all things of this nature, Steve is a virtuoso /hell on wheels with a backhoe and not afraid to prove it, manipulating its massive steel limbs with surgical precision he quickly made the tons and tons of concrete go away. I of course stood by and um.. helped him uh... well, I stood there and swept my driveway so as not to feel completely useless. Of course he would then load the dump truck and spill new sand for me to sweep, back to work I go. My work never done.

Projects for the near future include a deck to put on the front of this addition, a smaller deck for the front of the house, replacing the basement windows, completely redoing the sump pump situation downstairs, (for you west coasters, this is located in the basement where I do the laundry (by “I”, once again, I mean someone more qualified), because the basement is below our sewer lines, we have to have a well and sump pump to get the water up to the line. This is very common around these parts, but needs to be handled efficiently in order for it not to smell like a well with grey water in it. We’ll rely on Rickleff Plumbing and Heating (the best plumbers in town) to help us through this.
While I have photos of the addition going up, you’ll have to wait on the other projects until someone puts more money in my bank account. But we’ll keep chipping away at it.
Essentially, when we get done with this place, it will be like new and we’ll have actually fixed up our fixer upper.

Whew! I’m beat, not used to typing all this at one time!

For you locals that may need stuff built, I highly recommend Swats Concrete, Novey Construction and of course Rickleff Plumbing and Heating.

Oh, and I’ll post pics of this project soon and many other things we’ve been up to. I’ll work diligently to update this blog regularly again.

Plus is great exercise. So while the lazy neighbors are busy depleting the ozone with their fancy gas powered machines, I'm saving the world one shovel full at a time. That, and I can't afford one.

Our latest additon to the farm.
She's a pure bred golden retriever. Came with papers and everything. Pretty fancy considering we usually adopt pets from shelters. She was in need of a good home and the owner of the litter was taking the rest to the shelter the following day, so we picked up her up for free and got her before the shelter. This breeder was having a tough time selling them and was forced to give them up. Good for us and Annie. She's a beautiful dog as you can see and she's officially Dylan's. So now he can get up in the 17 below weather and take her out. Thats all she knows is the frigid cold. She loves being outside more than anything, but chasing Dylan into the shower nipping his bare buns is a close second.

like Jay-Z, I'm back!

It was the road to nowhere and every where.
The last place I would officially move. (or at least one of them)

It was also the hottest road in recent memory. A caravan of one car full of 3 cats, 1 guinea pig (yea, he’s still kickin’’), one 8, soon to be nine year old boy and a very, very ready to land little lady, one GMC pickup chock full of two grand parents, one old cat, (my Monet), and a truck full of me, my dogs and 100 plus temperatures for six fun filled days of Subway Sandwiches, bad roadside attractions as well as legendary stops. Wall Drug, Badlands, Mt. Rushmore and of course Exit 364-A. (Thank god for that one, for it had a gas station which allowed my forward progress. I ran into more instances than not that proved to me that god was watching my every move. It was almost uncanny. There are few soul searching experiences that clarify your life like 6 days on the road with nothing but blazing heat, your thoughts and two slobbering dogs to keep you company.
With thoughts of family, new adventures yet to come, and the hot, and I’m not kidding hot air rushing past my 2-55 air conditioning system. (2 windows rolled down 55 mph), of course I could only reach those blistering speeds on a 6% downgrade with a stiff tailwind). We made numerous stops along the way. Within the first two hours of the trip, I had to disperse the cats amongst the cooler cars. The dogs, for better or worse were stuck with me and my Diet Pepsi exploding machine. We traversed the tougher mountain passes, opting for the farmlands of Idaho instead. I personally counted every potato and green onion along the way. You may not believe that possible, but F-you. I did, or at the very least, it felt like I did. It was a LONG trip up until then and we were only into the second day. YIKES.
On one shade break, we got out in some town, stretched our legs and relaxed, well, 4 of us did, the other, an 8 year old, ran off to peek through the fence of the public pool at the local 8 year talent and soon found his shoeless self in the middle of a sandburr lot that would neither permit his passage the rest of the way to fence, or back to the cool grass. He called for me, his pops to come save the day.
Tragically, I was far too busy soakin’ up the shade to be bothered with a screaming 8 year old and he suffered for a good couple of minutes before my "lovely" wife “persuaded” me to go get him. Upon reaching him, I realized that I was a complete ass. And my “lovely” wife was right to brow beat me. The poor kid was not going anywhere without either some excruciating pain, or a helping hand, so I carried the little monkey out of the thorn patch while a cute lifeguard squirted the hot ‘ground’ beneath us with cold water. “Um, hey honey, how about us”? The walking wounded? Nope, no water for us. The gate slammed and that was that, load up the dogs and hit the road with sore itching feet, egg boiling heat and a feeling that the lifeguard had something better to do, which really hurt...
We lit out for what I like to call the “Next Stop”. Might not sound like all that much to you sitting in your LazyBoy, chillin’ like a villain, but for me, the next stop was a place full of magic, surprise and at the very least, a cold Mt. Dew and pisser. My expectations had dipped to a new low while the temperature hit a new high.
When we finally, and I really mean finally, reached Prairie, I was beyond ready to stop. That however would have to wait. Wait until I had the chance to unload the trailer at my 2nd parents house, then haul the rest of the shit to storage. I may have been a bit crabbly at this point in the “adventure”. I remember getting to my storage facility and literally throwing chairs as deeply into the massive chasm as I could see. I think I may have acted like an ass, but that’s between you and me. From there, we set out to find the jobs that would sustain our existence in the Midwest. Little did I know that my trip to the barber on the 2nd day in town would stand as my first and ‘game winning’ interview. Sure, it took some hardball selling, a lot of self doubt with some interviews across the sate mixed in to finally reel ‘em in, but reel ‘em in I did and now I work for a great start up in town that I truly believe will take off like wildfire. I was very happy to be gainfully employed again. We soon bought a house by Dylan’s school. Since then, we’ve been working steadily on the house and the unpacking. Jim, (Kim’s pops) has helped immensely, the only way I have thought to repay his work, time and effort is to join his bowling team and help them go from a contender to 2nd place. (2nd to last that is) That sucks! You might say, or specifically, YOU SUCK!, But look where they would have been without me...thats right, on their couches experiencing ass spread as their dreams of 2nd to last place faded into oblivion.
YOUR WELCOME!
Meanwhile, two weeks before Christmas, Dylan takes the “All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth” song to heart and cracks his bike and his two front and (of course) permanent teeth in half in a harrowing maneuver that all those with a penis have tried.
That is the jump from the higher place to the lower without going over the handle bars and smashing your face on the street. Some of us pull it off... and some of our bike forks snap at the critical moment and send us hurtling toward the pavement face first without the luxury of breaking said hurtle with our hands. This was the case with Dylan. On the upside, he looks like he just won the Stanley Cup by himself!
He goes in for reconstructive dentistry on Monday.
If that’s as bad as it gets here, I’ll take it.

Peace and Merry Christmas to you all.
